How to clean silver jewellery at home – a simple guide

Kako očistiti srebrni nakit kod kuće – jednostavan vodič

Jewellery made of 925 sterling silver can lose its shine or darken slightly over time. This is a natural reaction of silver with air, moisture, perfume and lotions. The good news: most jewellery is easy to clean at home.

Why does silver tarnish?

Silver reacts with sulphur in the air and on the skin, creating a dark layer on the surface. Cubuss jewellery is rhodium plated, which slows tarnishing, but rhodium-plated jewellery also needs occasional care.

How to clean silver jewellery – step by step

  1. Warm water and mild soap: add a drop of mild soap to a bowl of warm water, soak the jewellery for 5 minutes and clean it gently with a soft brush.
  2. Rinse and dry: rinse with clean water and dry immediately with a soft cloth.
  3. Polish: use a silver polishing cloth for extra shine.

Avoid toothpaste, baking soda and abrasive products – they can scratch the surface and damage the rhodium or gold plating.

How to prevent tarnishing

  • Take off your jewellery before showering, swimming, exercising and sleeping.
  • Apply perfume, lotion and hairspray before putting on jewellery.
  • Store each piece separately in a closed box or pouch.
